Having a tall, mature tree in a yard can enhance its visual appeal and provide shade. Unfortunately, once it reaches a certain height, caring for it can be difficult for property owners to manage on their own. During a spring project, homeowners in Hillman, MN, reached out to Northern Tree and Landscaping Service to schedule professional tree trimming for a sprawling willow oak in their backyard.

A Willow Oak Tree’s Towering Height Complicates Routine Tree Maintenance
The homeowners needed help bringing their mature willow oak’s sprawling growth under control. Its upper branches were beyond their reach, and the tree’s location near the home, backyard fence, and utility line left little room for error.
The homeowners understood why work at this height is generally left to professional arborists. They wanted the crew to trim the canopy and remove overgrown branches without damaging their surrounding property. The planned canopy shaping would also make the willow oak more manageable while supporting its overall health.
The crew from Northern Tree and Landscaping Service evaluated the confined work area and brought in an aerial lift to access the canopy. After positioning the equipment in the backyard, a crew member used the lift to reach the tree’s upper branches and make controlled cuts from the basket. The team carefully removed the targeted growth while keeping the branches and equipment clear of the nearby structures and utility line.
